Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) ‘star’ Lee Kang-in (22, PSG) is no ‘fluff’ or ‘flop’.
Lee is the best midfielder in South Korea right now. He was at his best with RCD Mallorca in the 2022-2023 season. In his second season with Mallorca, Lee scored six goals and six assists in 36 league games, totaling 12 offensive points.
In addition to his offensive output, Lee showed excellent situational awareness, crisp forward passing, aggressive dribbling, and ball-keeping, making it easy for him to showcase his strengths regardless of the opposition.
Lee was also nominated in the midfield category for the TOTS (Team of the season), which recognizes the best team in La Liga for the season. Although he didn’t win the award, he was recognized for his talent.
Lee started the first leg of the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League group stage against Borussia Dortmund in the early hours of the 20th (KST). He didn’t start, but came on as a second-half substitute for Vitinha and played about 10 minutes. He attempted 12 passes in the game, all of which ended up at the feet of a teammate.
Lee joined the Asian Games just days after playing in the Champions League, one of the highest levels of soccer in the world. But he wasn’t about to skimp. In fact, he apologized to his teammates for not being able to join them sooner.
“바카라I tried to get here as soon as possible,” said Lee, who trained at the Jinhua Sports Center Stadium auxiliary stadium in Jinhua, China, at 8 p.m. on the 22nd. I feel very sorry for my teammates and coaching staff. I’m excited to be here. We’ll talk a lot and try to work well together so that we can produce good results,” he said.
When asked about his physical condition, Lee said, “It’s always the same. Right now, it’s more important to get up to speed with my teammates as soon as possible. It’s been a long time since I joined the team and it’s been a long time since I’ve coordinated with my teammates. I need to adjust quickly,” he said, emphasizing that it is more important to be in sync with his teammates than his own physical condition.
Hwang Sun-hong scored 13 goals in two games without Lee Kang-in. They didn’t concede a single goal. Lee said, “I’m very proud and very happy, but it’s already the last game. All the players and staff have the idea that we need to do better in the future and show good results. I will do my best to show my best in the future matches,” he said, adding that he will not think about the last match and will do his best.
Lee Kang-in, who will be competing in his first Asian Games match, said he will approach the competition with a sense of responsibility, saying, “No matter where I go, I’m representing the country of Korea, so I should always be eager and try to win, just like any other match.”
Lee has played on big stages, including the U-20 World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. “Of course, I think it helps,” he said, “not just those two tournaments, but all the games I’ve played since I was a kid, all the training I’ve done, it’s given me a lot of experience. I think I can continue to perform well because of that experience. I think I’m trying to become a better player by continuing to have good experiences, not only in these tournaments but also in the future.”
