Spanish professional soccer club Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone will remain at the club until June 2027.
Simeone signed a three-year contract extension on Monday (Sept. 9). His previous contract was set to expire in June 2024.

Atletico said that by extending Simeone’s contract, the Argentine will be able to provide continuity to the project he began when he was appointed in December 2011.

“Since then, our team has enjoyed its most successful period, winning eight titles during that time,” the club said.

Atletico has won two Primera Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, two Europa Leagues, two European Super Cups, and one Spanish Super Cup since Simeone, 53, took over. He also took Atletico to two Champions League finals.

Simeone is the highest-paid manager in the world, according to French outlet L’Equipe. He is paid 29.84 million pounds ($48.08 billion) a year, which is 16.3 billion won more than second-place Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola (20.72 million pounds/$31.77 billion).

However, the two sides did not reveal the financial details of the extension. 무지개토토

Simeone, a former Argentina international midfielder turned coach, has managed 642 games for Atletico, winning 380 of them. He is the longest-serving coach in the club’s history.

He has also coached the same team for 13 consecutive seasons, a new La Liga record.

Atletico has qualified for the Champions League every season since his first in charge.
