All four K League teams in the fifth round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League were victorious. Following the victories of Incheon United and Ulsan Hyundai on the previous day, Jeonbuk Hyundai and Pohang Steelers followed suit on Monday.
Jeonbuk defeated Kitchee FC (Hong Kong) 2-1 in the fifth leg of their 2023-24 AFC Champions League (ACL) Group F match at Hong Kong Stadium at 7:00 p.m. KST on Monday.
Jeonbuk took an early lead through Moon Sun-min in the second minute of the first half before Song Min-kyu added a 38th-minute winner.
After being outnumbered by defender Jeong Tae-wook’s sending off in the final minute of the first half and conceding a late goal in the 24th minute, Jeonbuk held on to the one-goal lead until the final whistle to secure a valuable three points in enemy territory.
With the win, Jeonbuk improved to 9 points (3W-2D), closing the gap on leaders Bangkok United (Thailand – 10 points), who have played one game less. The gap to third-place Ryan City (Thailand) is three points.
The tournament will feature the top three finishers from each group and the second-place finishers from each of the five groups (Groups F through J – East Asia) qualifying for the round of 16. Jeonbuk will play its final group game next month when it hosts leader Bangkok at 7 p.m. on March 13.
Pohang, which has already clinched first place in the group and a spot in the round of 16 with four straight wins, extended its winning streak to five games.
Lee Ho-jae scored a penalty kick opener and Ha Chang-rae added a brace in Pohang’s 2-0 win over Hanoi (Vietnam) in the fifth match of Group J at Pohang Steelyard. 토토사이트
