Toronto is the ‘big dog’ in the market.
The Toronto Blue Jays could be in the market for multiple free agents, according to MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, on Dec. 5.
According to MLB.com, Toronto general manager Ross Atkins told reporters that the Blue Jays could be in the market for two free agents this offseason.
Shohei Ohtani, who is on the market, Juan Soto (SD), who is on the trade market, and Cody Bellinger, who is on the free agent market.
Toronto is one of the teams trying to land Ohtani this winter, while the New York Yankees continue to be mentioned alongside San Diego as a team pursuing Soto, who is on the trade market. There’s also talk of a package that could include Alec Manoa. They’re also a likely destination for Bellinger, given their need for outfield and left-handed bat reinforcements.
According to MLB.com, Atkins said, “It’s really tough to get two of those guys,” but added, “We’ve always had a great relationship with the ownership group.” It’s an astronomical amount of money, and it’s a luxury tax burden, but it’s something that can be done with the permission of the ownership group.
Ohtani’s contract is expected to total more than $500 million, and San Diego is practically asking for a “surrender of the farm” in exchange for Soto, who is just one year away from free agency. Bellinger is also expected to get a big contract. 토토사이트
Toronto is also in need of third base depth with third baseman Matt Chapman set to hit free agency. It will be interesting to see what Toronto does at the Winter Meetings.
