The Mets recruit Bader.

Major League Baseball’s official website said on Jan. 5 (Korea Standard Time) that the New York Mets agreed to a contract with outfielder Harrison Bader.

According to , the Mets agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million contract with Bader. Options and incentives are not yet known, and the club has not officially announced the contract.

U-Tutta outfielder Bader, born in 1994, started the 2023 season with the New York Yankees and finished with the Cincinnati Reds. Last year, he played in 98 games and recorded seven home runs, 40 RBIs and 20 steals. He showed batting productivity far below the league average.

Bader is a player with potential. Named by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2015 rookie draft, Bader made his big league debut in 2017 and played for St. Louis before being traded to the Yankees in the summer of 2022.

Despite some ups and downs, he has displayed stellar performance by posting .244/.325/.420 44 homers, 137 RBIs and 38 stolen bases in 419 games during the four seasons from 2018 to 2021, when he became a full-time big leaguer. He ranked sixth in voting for the National League Rookie of the Year award in the 2018 season and also received the Gold Glove Award in the 2021 season. He has displayed stable defense as a center fielder.

However, his performance has deteriorated recently due to frequent injuries. His recent two-year performance has been 184 games, 0.241/.284/.352 with 12 homers, 70 RBIs and 37 steals. There has been no significant change in his batting average, but his ability to get on base and slugging have sharply declined. The biggest issue is how healthy Bader will be, who will soon turn 30. Bader’s overall performance in seven big league seasons is 635 games, .243/.310/.396 with 59 homers, 217 RBIs and 77 steals. 마카오토토도메인

Born in New York and the same class at the University of Florida with Pete Alonso, Bader is familiar with New York. It seems that there will be no major problem in adapting to the Mets.

The Mets, which needed reinforcement of the outfield, have been seeking to recruit outfielders this winter. Chances are high that the team will appoint Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte as right fielder and left fielder, respectively, and leave Bader as center fielder.
